Extra ideas

I love the idea of stop motion shots, and I thought as the song is about love, the best sign to use for the stop motion shots would be a heart which builds up and bit by bit. The hearts could be made of a number of things, such as leaves, lit candles, pictures. This sort of jumpy shot would link in with the cheeky vibe of the song.

EQUIPMENT REQUEST

Hello Mrs Excell I was wondering if i could borrow a video camera with a tripod please for filming this weekend and a red head light.
Thankyou Hanna

Risk assessment

As I filmed using a variety of materials and in a variety of places this meant that each place and material had its own risk, although as many were stop start motion shots many did not have as many serious risks in comparison to others. Below I will give a few examples of the possible risks that came with either the material or locations I filmed in -

Filming in Kings University London - possible risks were tripping of wires and plugs, and plugging into sockets.

Candle heart shape - a possible risk was the candles falling and catching fire to anything flammable around them.

Couple walk - blocking and knocking into people in the park and tripping on nature objects such as rocks and tree branches.

Filming schedule & Communication with the artist & Location recce

As there are five members in the band Rubin and the Groovy Tuesdays I found it easiest to communicate with them all in a group inbox on social networking site Facebook as this way it would allow me to communicate with all of them at once easily and allow me to see their ideas bounce off of one another as each would reply. Through the group inbox on Facebook we discussed different locations as to which location would be best price wise and for accessibility. As a few of the band members went to Kings University in London they knew a great cultural filled room with instruments and all lights and equipment that they would need already there, this not only saved time and funds but also made it easy access, practical and easier for me as it allowed me to be able to not worry about other things and focus mainly on the music video and shooting it.

Story Board

I decided to do my story board on post it notes as it would allow me to freely express and draw all my ideas down whilst being able to freely move them all about, which allowed me to see which ideas would look better in which order.

Below are a few of the post it notes I took a photo of for an example -

Target audience performance

The main target audience, is a typical indie style girl called Lauren. Lauren is 19 years old and just finishing her gap year, which she took to travel and discover more of the world. When she starts university shell be studying psychology. In Lauren's spare time she loves to go to gigs all over London and see what unique styles of bands there are. Lauren is a typical indie girl who just loves to travel and read and discover new places and things. Rather than being a typical girl who reads gossip magazines and follows the latest high street trends, she loves to find a good bargain in a charity or thrift shop, that would suit her own unique style, as Lauren is not afraid to express herself.

Pitch

As the song is called 'This is love' and as the song is about what love is and has a high up beat tempo I want to keep it very cliche showing different stages, relationships and styles of love, such as a young girl and boy running holding hands and play fighting, with an old couple with hunched backs and grey hair both struggling to walk yet so in love that they don't want to unlink their arms from each other.
As the season in which my music video is taking place is Winter i can think of nowhere better to film such a hopelessly romantic music video. I plan on using as much of the city and its beautiful romantic sights, such as the Christmas lights in central London, the girl and boys standing and looking out of The London eye together looking over London, and London's famous winter wonderland where I think I can get some great shots of a young couple jumping on and off different amusement rides.
For the video I plan on using as many of the band members as I can to show the different stages of love, as I believe because they wrote the song they know many of the best possible ways to convey this to the camera.

After seeing the image below I realized Hyde Park would be a great place to get some shots of the couples who vary in age and culture, showing that all though not all of them are identical they all tie in together with the same wintry cosy background showing them all in love, showing the meaning of 'This is love'.

Filming schedule

I have spoken to the band and as some of them do different courses at university they managed to sort out a time between themselves which is a Sunday afternoon which works out well for me swell. After talking back and forth through Facebook we all decided to film in Kings university as they have all equipment there and not only is it free of charge but also suits the style of the music video.

Music video research

Gotye feat Kimbra - Somebody that I used to know

The song is visually different in comparison to the lyrics as the lyrics say ''you didn't have to cut me out'' but rather than Gotye being separate from Kimbra they are both standing next to each other naked singing directly facing each other, and rather than being cut or show injured they both get painted as though their pain is being painted on. As the beat and rhythm is mainly simple and repetitive so is the visual style through out the video as they both stand in one position just turning round every so often and being painted on until they are constantly covered in paint. They showcase the stars as simple and from the beginning show close ups of the artists body bare and paints, then later close ups of the paint on the artists body. The overall concept of the video is to keep the video simple yet effective, on how although we see somebody as changed underneath the materialistic surface, underneath all that they are still the same person.

OneRepublic - Counting stars:

The song is not very visually different from majority of its lyrics such as when it says 'dreaming something that'll kill me in my sleep' there is a shot of an alligator creeping up behind a wall. Also a religious prayer group shown preaching as though help is needed to someone in the music video. The singers as the preachers in the music video are shown to clap and stomp in sync together to the beat and rhythm of the song. The members of the band are shown in the video singing and playing in an empty space with plain grey surroundings, with the lead singer of the group leading the video at first, with close ups and shots of the band and the artists in it. The visuals in the video relate to the lyrics, an example of this is when the lead singer sings about how 'rather than counting dollars we'd be countin stars', and shots of the lead singer walking through a left not well kept flat. The concept of the video is to show the different things he is going through as he is dreaming about his life.

Fun - We are young:
This particular music video is a mix of visual different in some parts into some parts that is sung about, such as 'set the world on fire' rather then showing a globe on fire the band is shown having mayhem on stage with different random items flying and popping out of the air. Throughout the video whenever the beat and tempo builds up so does the mayhem in the video. The stars in the music video are shown with either close up shots when singing or playing on their particular instrument or wide view shots are used to show the whole band singing and playing together. Some visuals in the music video relate to some of the lyrics sung such as the song is about being set in a bar, so is the music video which both tie in together. The overall concept is to show what happened in a bar and how havoc and mayhem took place on that occasion.
