Editing my film opening
For the editing of my film opening I used Final Cut Express, which I found straight forward and simple to use. The editing of the footage took a lot less time than I expected, although adding the final touches of sound and titles took a lot longer than I aimed and hoped for. I think this is because as soon as I would put on a final touch I would think on how I could improve it and kept changing it till the very last possible minute.
Picking a location
I decided that the best place for me to film would be at my own home as I wanted to film somewhere where I felt comfortable and relaxed therefore making both my casts members feeling at ease. Also another reason why I chose to film at my own home was in case of me needing to re-film any parts it would always be available and ready for me to be able to go and do so.

Preparing for my title sequence
There are a range of things that needed to be thought about before the filming of my title sequence -
AUDIENCE - I first had to think what was the main target market group that my film would be aiming for. As I chose ethnicity it could reach out to both from teens to adults of any ethnicity as I believe ethnicity is interesting for any age group, especially as mine would be showing a teenage girl stuck between her Asian culture and her Western culture in which she is surrounded with.
WHEN & WHERE - I decided that the best place for me to film would be at my own home as I wanted to film somewhere where I felt comfortable and relaxed therefore making both my casts members feeling at ease.
MUSIC - I have two pieces of music in my piece, which I found on a non copy right music website. Both the pieces of music are very different as one is very Asian and shows the culture of the East of when she is first entering the house, and then the music changes to a Western modern day pop song to show the dramatic change of her character as she gets up and leaves the house.
SCRIPT - In my title sequence I feel the script was vital, although both my characters only speak for under a minute i still feel it is vital as it shows the contrast in the two sister characters and their different views on their culture.
SYNOPSIS - My film is about a young girl who is desprate to break away from her Eastern roots and shows her transition into her idea of the Western culture.
Risk assessment
- Before filming takes place it is vital to ensure that the camera is hooked to the tripod properly, in order to stop it from falling and disturbing any filming also to make sure no equipment is damaged in the process of filming.
- As not all parts of the film opening are done with a secure tripod is important to keep the camera still and secure so it does not fall.
- As my house is oppisite a main road with a pavement it is vital to make sure I take in people around to consideration, as it is possible that the camera and its equipment could disturb people around me in the surroundings.
Easy A

The film is inspired on the novel 'The Scarlet Letter', but is based on the character Olive played by Emma Stone, who first starts off with a white lie about losing her virginity, and then ends up seeing her life paralleling Hester Prynne's in 'The Scarlet Letter', which she is currently studying in school, until she decides to use the rumor mill to up life both her social and financial life.
Through out the opening of the film a range of shots are used in various positions, such as the establishing shot which is brought down from the sky to show that the films opening scene is set in a school. During the opening fast up beat music is used to go with the theme and also fast pace of editing is used throughout, as this keeps the film moving at a good pace.
The opening of the film is very western and does not focus on different ethnicities. This film mainly focused on the image Emma Stone sets herself by the way in which she acts and dresses. The way in which she shows herself through the way she dresses related to my film opening as it shows how people view differently on the way one dresses. Such as in my film opening the girl is given a very innocent, stereotypical image as she is first dressed in traditional Asian clothes known as a 'salwakamiz' but later as she changes clothes her whole image and the audiences outlook on her dramatically changes.
Bride and Perjudice

The screen play was done by Gurinder Chadha and Mayeda Berges. The film is mainly filmed in English but has some Hindi and Punjabi dialogue throughout, which adds to the culture.
The film is opened with an establishing shot showing a beautiful view of Indian moving from time to time, and through out the beginning all the main characters are introduced to the audience, allowing the audience to familiarise themselves with the faces of the main characters through the film.
The reason why I looked at this film is because it tied in very well with the idea of culture that me and my partner
had been aiming for, as it gave us a few ideas on different ways in which we could present mixing of the two cultures we were mainly focusing on which is Western and Asian culture and how we could show this to our audience. The film was good to review as it allowed me to see different styles in which ethnicity could play a big role with in my piece.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding

The reason why I looked at this film is because it had the main concept that I was looking for in my opening, of the daughter trying to push away and break free from her parents traditional views and rules. Such as her marrying a non orthodox Greek who on top of it all is vegetarian, which breaks all there culture and traditions.
I found the film interesting as it allowed me to see the different styles in which different cultures mixing could be shown to the audience and it allowed me to see if I would want to focus and lean towards more the romance of mixing cultures and wether I would like to have mixed the Western culture with the traditional Greek Orthodox culture.
